Biography

Malediction is a United Kingdom-based death metal band.

The band formed in Middlesbrough in the United Kingdom in 1989 where the majority of the then members were attending Teesside Polytechnic. The band were the first of the new breed of UK demo bands to reach vinyl with their “System Fear” 7” EP on the seminal French THRASH RECORDS label in 1990.

Gigging solidly throughout the early to mid-1990s and gaining substantial record company interest, the band went on to release a string of demos, two further 7”s and in 1993 released a live MCD “Chronicles of Dissention”. In 1992 the band appeared on “Pantalgia”, a compilation album has gone on to achieve legendary status.

Having notched up sales of approaching 10,000 units based upon their underground reputation alone, the band recorded their debut album “The Millennium Cotillion” in 1996. Unfortunately, the collapse of the Artic Serenades label resulted in the album remaining unreleased to this day and the band did not continue.

Bolstered by the 2016 release of “Chronology of Distortion” (a collection of restored andremastered recordings covering the 1990-1994 period) on CD, four of the original band members, vocalist Shaun Stephenson, guitarists Mark McGowan and Rich Mumford and bassist Mark Fox decided to reform the band.

In 2021, Jon Rushforth (HELLBASTARD, GOREROTTED) joined the band on drums to finalise the line-up.

In January 2023 Mark Fox decided to leave the band and was replaced by Rik Simpson (AUSTERYMN, BLOODMORES, MONSTRANCE).

The band has just completed work on “The Soil Throne”, a six-track twenty-five minute EP, and are now starting work on afull-length album to be released in 2024.
